Your Face, Your Data: How My Chitram Protects Your Privacy

Face recognition raises real privacy questions. Here's exactly what My Chitram stores, what it doesn't, and the controls you have over your data.

Your Face, Your Data: How My Chitram Protects Your Privacy

When you use a face recognition system to find your photos at an event, it's reasonable to ask: what happens to my face data? We think you deserve a clear answer- not legal boilerplate.

What we store

When you take a selfie to access an event gallery, our AI converts your face into a face embedding- a list of numbers that represents the geometry of your face. We store this embedding temporarily while you're accessing the gallery.

We do not store the selfie photo itself. The image is processed, the embedding is created, and the original photo is discarded.

What a face embedding is- and isn't

A face embedding is an encoded signature, not a photograph. It cannot be reverse-engineered back into a recognisable image of you. Think of it like a fingerprint scan: the scanner records a representation of your fingerprint, not an actual image of your finger.

Face embeddings stored by My Chitram cannot be used to reconstruct a photo of your face. They contain no personal identifiers- no name, no phone number, no location data unless you provide it.

How long is your data kept?

Event data is tied to the photographer's event settings. Photographers can set an expiry date for each event- after which all photos, face embeddings, and gallery access are permanently deleted. You can also request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

Who can see your photos?

Only you. Gallery access is face-locked- another person taking a selfie cannot access your gallery unless their face is a match for yours (which, barring an identical twin, won't happen). Photographers can see all photos they uploaded, but cannot browse individual guest galleries.

No account required

Guests don't create an account, set a password, or provide an email address to access their photos. The selfie is the only credential. There's no profile to breach, no password to steal.
